Klevener de Heiligenstein is the most mysterious Alsatian grape variety, but certainly the most delicious! Mysterious because it is grown only on 40 hectares in the commune of Heiligenstein, and has been since the 18th century. Grown here on clay-pebble soils in the hills of the Vosges at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile, Savagnin Rose is characterized by a softer, more mineral aromatic palette and a longer finish than its cousin, Gewürztraminer. The vines from which the grapes are sourced are between 20 and 50 years old and produce an average yield of 45hl/ha. The wine is aged for 13 months in oak barrels on the full lees.
