Léo Dirringer
Frankreich / Elsass
Léo Dirringer is part of a family of winemakers that has animated the Ruhlmann Dirringer estate for several generations.
It is never easy to take over a domaine with so much history, especially in Alsace where tradition is very important. Even though Léo is still very young, he has managed to discreetly impose his way of working by first starting with the conversion to organic, and if the first vintages without sulphur and with indigenous yeasts somewhat frightened the older generation, the result and the success of the son's wines convinced everyone about the sustainability of this type of change.
For him, this transition to a new way of working was a condition for taking over the winery, especially after an internship with Marie-Thérèse Chappaz, who convinced him of the importance of the quality of the grapes and respect for the terroir.
Léo's wines caught our eye at a tasting in Angers two years ago, and our visit with him confirmed all the promises we had tasted. His wines are straightforward, charming and full of energy. A winemaker you should follow, this is where it gets very exciting!
